Day 7: Region 4, 1st Annual Quilt Across Texas Shop Hop September 20, 2011

Day seven was my first day on my own. My friend is not able to finish the hop with me because of prior commitments. 😦 So, I woke up Monday morning feeling okay and decided to get Region 4 done. Eleven stores in 7 hours….you can do it!

Stop one was Quilt Country in Lewisville. I was so busy thinking through what my route was going to be that I forgot to take a picture. Sorry Quilt Country! Quilt Country is the home of the rag quilt and so I  picked up one of their patterns and I am excited to try it! This store has everything… fabric, patterns, templates…. and a long arm that you can take a class on how to use it and then use it to sew your quilts! The ladies there were very nice and I am so glad that I got to meet them.

Stop two was Happiness is…. Quilting! Very cute store in downtown McKinney. The store front that they are in was built in the 1800s and the exposed brick is so cute! This place was worth the stop for the ambiance and the friendly people.

Stop 3 was only about 5 minutes away. The Quilt Asylum had great fabrics as well. I especially enjoyed the 1930’s selection for a quilt that I am working on. The ladies at the front were very sweet and let me know the lay out of the store so that I could find what I was looking for.

Stop 4 was Rockwall. Texas Quiltworks is also located in a cute store front in the original downtown of Rockwall. This shop is a Bernina dealer that has a full time Bernina technician on staff… a very unique and enticing offering for those with Bernina’s.

The Texas flag quilt below was designed by the owner and although it looks difficult, it is really easy to put together. Even a newbie like me can attack it! Customer service was outstanding and this shop is definitely worth visiting!

Stop five was Blue Ribbon Quilt Shoppe, a must see in Wylie! This shop is located in downtown Wylie in a storefront and the shop is just beautiful! Great selection of fabrics! I especially liked their collection of freedom fabrics and the Texas postcard fabric! If you can’t make it to the shop, you have to see the collection online! I really enjoyed this shop and wish I lived closer because I would be there all the time! The ladies are so kind and they have great classes too!

To the right is a picture of the quilt that they are raffling away for the shop hop! It is just gorgeous!

Stop six brought me to Celeste, Texas. Now this shop is a must see! It is completely worth the drive and the selection of fabrics and ideas are marvelous! If you like Gone with the Wind or The Wizard of Oz, you have got to see the fabrics in stock! Plus, they had the best Christmas quilts hanging in the Christmas room! There was so much to see and I definitely spent money there!

This shop also offers a Retreat Center and I actually met a lady on my shopping trip that recommended this Retreat Center to me. She said that she goes to Celeste for every retreat she does. Sounds like a good set up… great fabrics, great ideas, and great retreat facility! I might be heading your way Celeste!

Stop seven was Alford Inn Quilt Shoppe and Retreat in Van Alstyne. Very cute! The owner is an absolute sweetheart! The upstairs of the building is the retreat center and it is so cheap….$40/night/person weeknight and $50/night/person weekend. They provide a fully stocked kitchen that only needs food. The grocery store is right next door so it is easy to get to.

The picture to the right was made doing the jelly roll race on youtube.com. The fastest time is 35 minutes! They appliqued the Christmas trees and it is just perfect!

Stop eight was Kaleidoscope Quilt Shop in Whitesboro. I have mixed thoughts about this shop, the lady at the front was not in a good mood and that kinda ruined the shop for me. She might have had a bad day and she made sure that no pictures were taken of the Quilt Across Texas quilt that they created. I wasn’t interested in it, so that did not bother me, but the fact that I was told five times about that one quilt did bother me. I guess they had some problems with the shop hop people and I guess that is the reason for the overall mood in the store.

The lady that helped me in the back was a sweetheart and the quilt that they are giving away is so cute! I really enjoyed the State of Texas quilt at the front of the store and they sell the pattern, but now that I am looking at it, I am not sure if they have a website or not.

Shop nine was adorable! Pass Time Fabrics in Gainesville is worth the drive! The shop is so neat and organized and the owner is very nice! I picked up some Norman Rockwell fabric that my family is going to LOVE! I wish I had more time to mosey in this shop, I really liked it!

I can’t get over the kindness that I received at Material Girl Quilt Shop in Denton. These women not only stayed open 10 extra minutes for me, but when I picked out a jelly roll, they helped me match border fabric and did not complain one bit I kept them. I was quick as could be and I really appreciate their kindness! You have to visit these ladies! They are so nice and will make sure that you are all set for your quilt project. Very helpful!

Oh, and they definitely have the BEST Quilt Across Texas Quilt (see below)! It is the best one I have seen! A++

My very last stop was Minding My P’s and Q’s in Cross Roads and it is the place to be at 5:30! They are open until 6 and those ladies made a good decision to stay open later because they had about 10 cars in their drive when I came in.

Everyone was nice and again, great fabrics! They are also the proud winners of First Place in the Plano Quilt Show (quilt is shown below). Definitely visit this neat shop!
